10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong..
Simian Mobile Disco - 10,000 Horses Can't Be Wrong
Tracks, sounds, noises, songs. Sometimes they articulate a feeling. It can lovely, bubbly, fluffy feelings that you may have for someone else. It could be gut-wrenching grief and loss. But how often does it tend to be frustration? And not all those with lyrically obvious cathartic messages that say the things you can't. No, fuck all that. Like genuine skin-crawling frustration at yourself and no visible way to deal with it. Elements of this track do that for me.
Maybe I need to talk about it. Maybe I need a fresh perspective. Maybe I need to be away from a University, my books, journal articles, notes, post-it's, etc, etc, etc, for more than half an hour. We're not making progress.
Waking up at 5am, nervous, thinking about how the two dissertation topics you are currently working around are may lack-lustre, is probably not good.
This track embodies the emotions that seem to characterise my tempestuous nature of late. And it goes someway to highlighting my continuing 'outsider' status. The bleeps seem to say, if you listen really carefully, You're a loner...
And you can't argue with the bleeps.
Thanks Simian Mobile Disco!

Mix of the Year 2007

Mixes? Plural? No. Why bother? I'm not saying I didn't experience others that I enjoyed, Crookers, Simian Mobile Disco, Broken Hooker DJ's, etc, etc, etc. But in reality it would just not really do justice to the one that stood out above the rest for me.
La Grève Générale - Cheese on Toast and Sambuca mixtape [via YouSendIt for 7 days]
Exciting. Compelling. Diverse in the hippest way.
La Grève Générale's Cheese on Toast and Sambuca mixtape had me literally squealing with delight.
Hell hath no fury like Steph Mulrine scorned. Well this proves that eclecticism hath no freedom like La Grève Générale.
These boys should definitely be something to shout about for a long time to come. And somewhere up North should book them. Poverty restricts me geographically.
Add these guys on MySpace. Then bombard them with general exclamations of adoration. I do.

Physical exhaustion..
And it's not over yet.
Those Dancing Days - Those Dancing Days [via YouSendIt for 7 days]
Those Dancing Days. A cute Swedish, indie-pop, electro band recieving love from the world of blogs. This is their best track. Sounds like they could progress really well. Blatant potential.
Simian Mobile Disco - Cliktrax [via YouSendIt for 7 days]
A reworking of a previous track the boys had done. Personally I think I prefer my more familiar original. However, this still sums up for me everything I adore about Simian Mobile Disco. And thats a lot!
Dan Deacon - Wham City [via YouSendIt for 7 days]
This song by Dan Deacon has really got me through some dark moments recently. It guarantees to delight in its split personality type way. A song that is actually done in two different styles, if you don't like the first you're bound to love the second. Love the friendly sounding chorus!

Lazy lovin'..
As if it is not enough that they are championing pop, DJing for the lucky NY-er's, truly delicious on the eye and deftly writing quite brilliantly, no, as if this was not already enough they are bringing you lots of Simian Mobile Disco treats.
leonel gosphar is very much in love with Disco Nap. The distance is the only pain leonel gosphar feels in this twisted blog-loving.
Get over there and tell them how much you love them!

Bjork and Simian Mobile Disco

What a great combination!
I feel swells of bias whenever anything Simian Mobile Disco related appears on the radar.
They've gone and remixed Bjork's new single Innocence. And as I listened to the remix all I could think was..
"Why not sooner?"
Well, its here now and I thought before I popped off to London for a few days tomorrow I'd leave it with you all to enjoy in the absence of Ms Mulrine.

Other blog's n'tha..
Firstly, my good(-looking) friends over at Disco Nap have popped up the Roisin Murphy video. A brilliant song. I'm very excited about pop music right now, seems to be making up for my lack of faith in other genre's at the moment.
And they also are partial to iLiKETRAiNS of whom I'd forgotten I really quite like myself. Made me dig out the CD out of my 'black box'.
Wonderous people that they are! I wish I was over the pond to go for a disco dance with them.
Occam's Razor is another great blog, if somewhat neglected at the moment, which actually makes me laugh out loud in shock, awe and admiration of the wonderfully blatant thoughts expressed. I love it.
Yet, the whole reason for this post is to air my dismay. A very popular blog, which you may very likely know if you are up on your blog scene, Missing Toof, and I habitually check several times a day, has admitted a liking for Simian. Why? Why? Why? They were a horrible band. Their sound was too nasty to be pop, too yukky to be indie, too awful to be cool. I just could not reconcile a liking for them at all. And even the Justice VS. Simian m'lark didn't do it for me.
But everything that Simian Mobile Disco have done I have adored with an unfathomable aching in my chest. I love it all. The album, the remixes, the production. If those wonderful boys, James Ford and James Shaw, have gotten near it or tampered with it then the likeliness is I will be a fan.
They encapculate everything good about this scene that I've kind of plunged into.
To think I used to be an twee-indie girl that wore floral patterns.. Oh.. Wait.. I still do.
Fuck! Even the Simian Mobile Disco mix of Simian - Never Be Alone is better than the Justice version. A controversial thing to say as that was probably what was regarded as the Remix of the Year 2006. But fuck it! I don't care.
I'm nervous about imminently having to go a meeting where I'll have to walk into a room full of strangers.

The Field

The Field has somewhat fallen into my world from, I'm not really sure where.
And I am insanely grateful.
From Here We Go To Sublime is something I felt I almost stepped into. I felt I was wearing the sound and music as it filled my ears. It completely enveloped me from beginning to end.
I don't want to say too much on it.
Words may erode this piece of joy.
It is a seamless album. Making the album format something to love once again after being barraged with just 'tracks' in and of themselves for a long while now.
And with the Simian Mobile Disco album looming I feel that the album format will make a welcome return for most.
Buy From Here We Go To Sublime.

As random as Schoenberg.
So not at all.
But my mind is a little bit all over the place. This is a combination of a) suddenly having lots of money in the form of a student loan, b) having watched that documentary on 'The Race to Size Double Zero' and c) there being a new CD at work. Nice.
So just to set my mind and 90% of things in the world straight.
- Go buy Victor Bermon - Arriving At Night. It is beautiful and will make the needless heat and humidity of the impending summer all the more worthwhile.
- Get tickets to see Andrew Bird.
- Simian Mobile Disco are tantamount to most religious worshipped deities.
Other things will come to me when the upheaval of thoughts in my head settles.
I have also finally finished my March compilation CD, entitled Orite! (You facking cant!). The tracklisting is as follows:
Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire
Lemon Jelly - Ramblin' Man
The Shins - Turn On Me
Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
Mr Oizo - Patrick122
Klaxons - Golden Skans to Interzone (So Me remix)
Para One - Midnight Swim (Surkin Drowning mix)
Lemon Jelly - The Staunton Lick
Arcade Fire - Black Wave/Bad Vibration
Scissor Sisters - She's My Man (Goose remix)
Unklejam - Love Ya (Herve remix)
The Shins - Kissing The Lipless
Late Of The Pier - Space And The Woods
Thom Yorke - The Clock
Arcade Fire - No Cars Go
Lemon Jelly - Experiment Number Six
Took a while to finish this time. But it is good listening.
I shall be more coherent soon. Fingers crossed.
